(JULY 4, 2007): Eleven-month-old Sofia Costa from Miami held the honor today of being the youngest new citizen to be sworn in by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. At the footsteps of Cinderella Castle, Sofia (held by her father Jeffrey Costa) was the youngest among 1,000 immigrants in today's naturalization ceremony. She held previous citizenship in Guatamala. Other highlights included a performance by Grammy-award winning singer Gloria Estefan and Country Music Association award-winner Lee Greenwood; a keynote address by U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) and the Oath of Allegiance presided over by Emilio Gonzalez, Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The event was a first for the Magic Kingdom, with thousands of park guests joining in the celebration. (Gene Duncan, photographer)
